The Feast Collective at Camp Bestival

Published: May 20, 2016 · Modified: Mar 25, 2021 by Kate Hackworthy · This post may contain affiliate links ·

This year's Feast Collective at Camp Bestival promises amazing food, fantastic atmosphere and the best artisan food producers from across the UK.

I am SO EXCITED! My family has been invited along to Camp Bestival this year where I'll be an official blogger. We've never been before so we're all looking forward to camping, music, entertainment and... food!

Camp Bestival 2016 takes place 28th to 31st July 2016 in the grounds of Lulworth Castle in Dorset, UK. Organised by BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob Da Bank, it is held annually and is targeted at families with small children. It's a multi-award winning family festival experience. Alongside music from the likes of Fatboy Slim and Tears for Fears, there will also be a huge kids’ area, loads of thrilling activities from soft play and circus skills to go-carts and glitter. Plus, there are kids’ shows and performances on the Castle Stage and in the Big Top, daring antics to be had at the Freesports Park, and fairytale escapism in the Dingly Dell.

Now for the food: Camp Bestival calls The Feast Collective a camp 'food lovers' haven'. It will bring together artisan food producers from across the UK. They've found the best independent chefs, street vendors, and creative food makers and brought them together for the ultimate outdoor feasting experience.

One of the best things about festivals (you know, aside from the music and the FUN!) is the food. I seriously still dream about a vegan carrot slaw that I had at Glastonbury '04. Food has such a wonderful way of conjure up memories: thinking about hot chocolate transports me back to camping in a forest in Canada with my parents when I was small, a tin of beans (opened by beating it with a sharp stone) reminds me of wild camping with my friends as a teenager at the side of a river... One sip of cider and I'm taken back to Lovebox watching Blondie with friends.

The Feast Collective promises huge communal tables to sit at with friends, family and merry strangers to eat, sip cocktails and enjoy the music. There will also be interactive food demos, food tastings and other events. This year the festival is space-themed, so the Feast Collective will have intergalactic food adventures aplenty!

DJBBQ said: “Please don't tell the other festivals but Camp Bestival is our favourite. It's the perfect combination of fun people, exceptional location, phenomenal food, great music, and good times. I've been hosting the Feast Collective for the past couple years and it is the most carefully curated food tent on the planet. We love to throw a party and the Feast Collective is the best party at Camp Bestival. Rob da Bank himself told me that we are always one of the best sound systems at his festival. Come by for super delicious food that's cooked with care and provenance. We look forward to cater-taining you."

Some of the foodie highlights will be:
British street food celebs Seadog with their seaside popcorn
Bahn Mi and Vietnamese street food from Pho Sho
Southeast Asian street dishes from Makatcha
    Pimp my Ramen
Sweet potato pancakes from the Chocolate Bear Kitchen
    Eritrean tacos from Lemlem Kitchen
Polar Pops ice lollies made only from real fruit and vegetables - I've had these at the Frome Independent market and my kids LOVED them!

I'm looking forward to the Feast Collective even more than my kids are looking forward to Mr Tumble. And that's saying something.

Disclosure: Camp Bestival are providing tickets for my family to attend the festival and I am an official blogger for the event. Food image courtesy of Shutterstock

Certain music and smells always take me back to particular moments in my life, but I've never really thought about food doing the same thing. Interesting. We've never been to Camp Bestival - I'm afraid I like my home comforts too much to do the camping thing. I know it's hugely popular though and I'm sure you'll have a great time. Tx
