Cut the tops off the strawberries so they stand with the pointed tip facing up.
Add a drop or two of black food coloring gel to half of the fondant icing and knead, adding more gel if necessary to more to make it black.
Lightly dust the work surface with icing sugar and roll the white and black fondant out separately.
Cut ovals small enough to fit onto the strawberries out of the black fondant.
Cut small triangle ‘teeth’ out of the white fondant.
Use a little water on your finger to ‘glue’ the teeth to the black ovals. When they’re stuck together, glue the mouths to the strawberries with the writing icing along with the candy eyes on top.
Notes
When choosing strawberries, go for bright red, ripe berries. If they are on the larger side, that's even better! To make black fondant, start with white fondant and add a drop or two of black food coloring gel. Knead it until it's evenly black throughout. Add as much as you need to for the desired color. You can also purchase black fondant icing from craft stores. If you don't have decorating icing, you can use a little water to glue the eyes and mouth in place, or melted chocolate.Use icing sugar to help roll out the fondant, this will prevent it from sticking to the surface or your rolling pin.If you want to make these ahead of time, you can prepare the strawberries and store them in the fridge for 24 hours until you're ready to add the eyes and mouth.
