Crave-worthy baked or air fried Spiralized Sweet Potato Fries are tasty, savory, and simple to make.

Table with a dish of Spiralized Sweet Potato Fries.

Indulge in a healthier take on classic fries with these easy, baked, Spiralized Sweet Potato Fries.

They are a fantastic alternative to regular fries, offering a satisfying crunch with every bite.

With just a few simple ingredients and minimal prep time, you can whip up a batch of these flavorful fries to enjoy as a snack or side dish.

I love the way the creamy texture and deep flavour of sweet potatoes really shine through when they're baked.

They're great as jacket spuds with beans, hot salad and chickpea 'tuna'.

I also love using sweet potatoes as mash, where their stunning orange colour is equalled by the wonderful sweet taste.

They're also incredible in sweet desserts like Sweet Potato Muffins with Chocolate Chips or Sweet Potato Cookies! Heck, I even whiz them into a rich and creamy Sweet Potato Latte.

But my FAVORITE fun way to use them is in baked spiralized sweet potato fries.

Spiralizing the sweet potatoes quickly and easily gives you long shoestring potato strips - perfect once baked into crispy, tender, sweet potato fries.

Table with a dish of spiralized sweet potato fries, plus a tray of them behind and a dish of ketchup.

Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. Healthier Alternative: Swap out traditional fries for spiralized sweet potato fries to enjoy a lighter, more nutritious snack or side dish.
  2. Easy Preparation: With minimal ingredients and simple steps, this recipe is perfect for busy weeknights or lazy weekends.
  3. Versatile: Customize your sweet potato fries with your favorite seasonings or dipping sauces for a personalized touch.
  4. Kid-Friendly: Encourage your little ones to eat more veggies with these fun and flavorful spiralized sweet potato fries.

Ingredients

  • Sweet Potato: The star of the show! Opt for medium-sized sweet potatoes, which are easier to spiralize. The firm texture of raw sweet potatoes makes spiralizing easy.
  • Cornstarch (Cornflour): Helps to absorb moisture and creates a crispy exterior.
  • Oil: Use your preferred cooking oil for tossing the sweet potato fries.
  • Salt and Pepper: Season to taste.

Variations

  • Cajun Seasoning: Add a kick of spice with Cajun seasoning for a flavorful twist.
  • Garlic Parmesan: Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese and minced garlic over the fries before baking for a savory treat.
  • Sweet and Spicy: Drizzle honey and sprinkle chili powder for a tantalizing combination of sweet and spicy flavors.
  • Try them with a sprinkling of Old Bay Seasoning or Baharat (Middle Eastern spice blend).

Serving suggestions

You can get creative with the toppings - add cajun spice, jerk seasoning, even cinnamon and sugar!

Enjoy as a side dish with burgers, sandwiches, or wraps.

For dipping sauces, try these fries with homemade ketchup, tartar sauce or sriracha aioli.

One of our favorite sauces for dipping is this Burger King copycat zesty Onion Ring Sauce. Sure, these aren't onion rings, but the flavor of the sauce is perfect with the sweet taste of these fries.

Storage

Storage Advice: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Reheat in the oven, air fryer, or toaster oven to maintain crispiness.

Recipe Tips for Sweet Potato Fries

  1. Allow the sweet potato fries enough space on the baking tray to ensure they crisp up evenly.
  2. Check the fries halfway through baking and rotate the trays if necessary to prevent uneven cooking.
  3. Make sure your oven is preheated to the correct temperature before baking for optimal results.
  4. Toss them in cornflour (cornstarch) to absorb the moisture.
  5. Don't crowd them on the pan or they'll steam rather than bake.
  6. For best results, use a cooking mesh or pile them onto a rack on the baking sheet, although a hot baking sheet will work well too.
  7. If spiralizing, make them thick as they'll shrink when cooking.
  8. Make sure the oven is hot before cooking them.
  9. They will continue to crisp up when out of the oven, so don't cook them too dark.

Equipment

  • Spiralizer
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sweet potato raw, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (cornflour)
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil plus extra for greasing
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

Oven Bake

  • Heat oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking tray with cooking oil.
  • Thickly spiralise the sweet potatoes, or alternatively cut into thin strips.
  • In a large bowl, gently toss the sweet potato with the cornflour. Add the oil and toss to coat.
  • Spread it all onto the baking tray, taking care not to overcrowd it or the results won't be crispy. Use another baking tray if necessary. You can also place them onto a wire rack on the baking tray to encourage air circulation.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, turning the sweet potatoes halfway through and turning the trays. They will continue to crisp up after they come out of the oven.
  • Serve hot, seasoned with salt and pepper.

Air Fryer

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
  • While the air fryer is preheating, spiralize the sweet potatoes into thick spirals or cut them into thin strips.
  • Place the spiralized sweet potatoes in a large bowl. Add the cornstarch and oil, tossing gently to coat evenly.
  • Once the air fryer is preheated, lightly grease the air fryer basket with oil or use a non-stick cooking spray.
  • Spread the spiralized sweet potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overcrowded.
  • Cook the sweet potato fries in the air fryer for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  • Check for desired crispiness. If needed, continue cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Once done, season the sweet potato fries with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve hot and enjoy your crispy, air-fried spiralized sweet potato fries!

Notes

  1. Toss them in cornflour (cornstarch) to absorb the moisture.
  2. Don't crowd them on the pan or they'll steam rather than bake.
  3. For best results, use a cooking mesh, although a hot baking tray will work well too.
  4. If spiralizing, make them thick as they'll shrink when cooking.
  5. Make sure the oven is hot before cooking them.
  6. They will continue to crisp up when out of the oven, so don't cook them too dark.
Serving suggestions
Try them with a sprinkling of cajun spice, Old Bay Seasoning or Baharat (Middle Eastern spice blend).
For dipping sauces, try these fries with homemade ketchup, tartar sauce or sriracha aioli.
