    • This syrup contains the delicate flavor of rose, which makes it perfect for adding to both sweet and savory dishes.
    • It's also incredibly versatile - rose syrup can be used in cocktails, desserts, or even given as a gift!
    • Rose syrup is easy to make and only requires a few ingredients.
    • You can intensify the pink color with a small drop of red food coloring for a beautiful presentation.

    Ingredients

    • Granulated White Sugar - Used to sweeten the syrup and dissolves in water easily.
    • Water - Thins out the syrup to create a pourable consistency.
    • Edible Rose Petals or Rose Water - You can use petals or buds to give this syrup its rose flavor. Alternatively, use ½ teaspoon of rosewater extract.

Please see the recipe card below for quantities.

    Instructions

Wondering how to make this Rose Simple Syrup recipe? It's easy! Just follow this step-by-step photo tutorial. Then, scroll down for the recipe card for the full ingredients list and recipe method.

Water and sugar in a pot.

Combine the rose, sugar, and water: Add the sugar and water to a medium-sized pot. If using rose petals, add them now. If using rose water, wait.

    Syrup simmering.

Cook the syrup: Turn the heat up to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil. Once it boils, reduce the heat to a simmer for 10 minutes.

Color and rose water added to the simple syrup.

Strain: Let the syrup cool slightly, then pour it over a mesh strainer into a bowl to remove the rose petal particles. Or if using rose water, stir it in now. If using food coloring, add it now. You will probably only need 1 small drop.

Cool and store: Once cooled completely, pour into a sanitized jar and store it in the fridge for up to four weeks.

    Top tips

If you're using rose petal extract, add it after the syrup is cooked to avoid damaging the flavor.

You can use fresh rose petals, or dried rose petals or buds.

Darker colors of rose petals will have a darker-colored syrup.

Ensure you use edible roses that are not sprayed by any chemicals or pesticides.

If your rose petals are small, you may need to strain it twice to remove all particles.

Let the syrup cool completely before pouring it into a bottle as the syrup will be extremely hot and can cause burns.

To prevent bacteria growth, make sure the container you use to store the syrup is fully sanitized.

The natural color of this rose syrup is pale pink if pink rose petals are used. If you want to add some color, stir in a small drop of red or pink food coloring.

Add a touch of warming flavor to the mix by stirring in some cinnamon or nutmeg into the simmering water.

Change up the flavor by adding fresh herbs such as mint, sage, or lavender to the rose syrup.
